(Before they’re gone!)
There are things the algorithm understands. Then there’s lore. For Spring 2026, i-D celebrates the strange, human stories that slip past the feed: the inside jokes, personal mythologies, and cultural moments no recommendation engine could predict. At a time when facts are cheap, what we really want are stories and heroes with something to say. This is what it actually means to be a legend.
The Lore Issue starring SZA, EsDeeKid, Bhavitha Mandava, and Martin Parr is on select newsstands today (available globally March 26th). But our online store is the only place where you can be sure to secure the exact cover you want.
SZA is a certified megastar by every measure who has achieved the rare feat of being insanely famous yet beautifully unknowable, maybe even to herself. For our cover story, we met the musician in Los Angeles to find out what goes on inside her mind. Speaking with writer Brittany Spanos, SZA opens up about her artistry, her beliefs, and her commitment to making music others can’t, from the ashram to the Super Bowl.
EsDeeKid is a masked sensation who—despite being a child of online rap culture—has absolutely zero paper trail. In a photoshoot spanning across three countries (and featuring three rottweilers), director Aidan Zamiri follows the Liverpudlian musician on a medieval chronicle through the looking glass of rap stardom. The story features an original poem titled “Vermin” penned by EsDeeKid himself during the making of the shoot.
Engineering student-turned-model Bhavitha Mandava became a fashion darling overnight after opening Chanel’s Métiers d’art show in New York. Her story draws so many literary comparisons—Cinderella’s slipper, Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket, King Arthur’s sword in the stone—that it feels larger than life. Photographed by Inez and Vinoodh in their home in New York, Mandava opens up to writer Iva Dixit about finding her footing in the United States and acclimating to her newfound fame.
In this limited edition cover, we pay tribute to the pioneering photographer Martin Parr, who died as we were making this magazine. A hero of photography, Martin was as beloved behind the lens as he was beside it, mentoring photographers and promoting the art form around the world. Martin’s wife Susie Parr pens a tribute to her husband that accompanies a selection of some of Martin’s most recent and favorite works. This edition is limited to 200 copies—for the real Parr heads only.
